“Truck Farm” at the Grange!

“TRUCK FARM”!   If you need an “upper,” come join us this Third Thursday! You will love this film, because it’s fun but makes its point: how can we encourage people to grow their own food – no matter where they are? Our hero, Ian, plants a food garden in the back of his grandpa’s truck, then takes it on adventures in the heart of NEW YORK CITY…for a while. Children and youth will enjoy this film as well – it’s funny and even silly in places. Actually, you may want to take a power drill to the bed of your own pickup truck – really!

Where: Forest Grove Grange, 1917 “B” Street
When: Thursday, June 20,2013;  7:30 pm (45 minutes long)

Gardening Workshop

Saturday, May 11, 2013
2:00 to 3:30 p.m.
Forest Grove Senior and Community Center
2037 Douglas St.
Free, but donations encouraged for FGSCCenter
Jerry Anderson, Master Gardener, OSU Extension Service
Instruction and demonstration will take place using the four-foot tall raised garden bed Jerry has at the Center. This gardening method shows how to get more food grown in a smaller space, and is  developed from the Mel Bartholomew book: Square-Foot Gardening. “Compared to single row gardening, you get 100% of the Harvest with only: 50 % of the Cost, 20% of the Space, 10% of the Water, 5% of the Seeds, and 2% of the Work.” You will love Jerry’s easy to reach tall garden bed, which was originally developed for wheel-chair users,  and his fold-down trellis invented for easier harvesting.

DIRT! The Movie @ the FG Grange

Every Third Thursday, we activists from Dairy Creek Community Food Web come together to share another film with our friends and neighbors. We certainly hope you all can take a break from digging in the dirt to come to this FOOD FESTIVAL FILM, which is FREE, absolutely FREE! Popcorn is free, too! Even the chai tea is free. Not many places can offer you an evening of monthly educational films that are free these days. But you are guaranteed a lively conversation following the films, and this one has a lot of great special features, too. Once again, for instance, Alice Waters remains passionate and articulate as the founder of not only Chez Panisse Restaurant in Berkeley, Ca., but the incredible EDIBLE SCHOOLYARD!  And just wait until you find out why wines taste different even if the vineyards are next to each other, and even if the grape type is the same.  Come and share the joy and the concern for DIRT!

APRIL 18, 2013 @ 7:30 p.m. DIRT!!! The Movie  @ Forest Grove Grange, 1917 “B” St.

This is an insightful and timely film that tells the story of the glorious and underappreciated material beneath our feet. Narrated by Jamie Lee Curtis, Dirt! The Movie shares stories from experts around the world who are studying it, discovering new ways to repair a respectful and mutually beneficial relationship with soil. Appearing in the film are Alice Waters, Vandana Shiva, Wangari Maathai, Andy Lipkis, Pierre Rabhi, William Bryant Logan, Miguel Altieri, Majora Carter, and many other “dirt people”.

A discussion will follow the film.
