Switching Gears

Community Matters has decided to switch gears. We are pulling away from the community suppers as response has never gotten to what we were hoping. It could be due to a variety of issues, such as time available to devote or community need, regardless we are heading in a new direction. Stay tuned to see which direction Community Matters goes!

Seeds and supper

ImageDream Garden. Do you have one? A garden? The dream of a garden? A dreamy garden? Sadly, my desire for this dream garden is not a match with the time, energy or follow through that I have to spend on it. We have begun the process of changing our front yard from ornamental to food and we purchased some seeds from the school seed sale; I am really excited about it all! The goal is that Don is not the only one doing all of the work!

Do you have some seeds you’d like to share? Do you want something new for your garden this year? This Friday Ellen Hastay will be bringing a bunch of leftover seeds from a recent swap and she is encouraging others to come to see what they can use or trade! This will be in addition to our usual supper (which has been anything but usual the last couple of months).

There were new faces at our supper last month and we hope the trend continues! Let’s ring in spring with seeds and soup!! As always… The Forest Grove Senior and Community Center @ 2037 Douglas St 5:30 for cooking, 6pm for eating.

Say Good-Bye to Winter!

Tomorrow night marks our last soup supper of the Winter! Come help us ring in March, enjoy a delicious meal, and maybe chat a bit about garden plans or what is going on in the Grove these days or where we can reach out for resources and support.

Eat Food. Meet People. Win-win.

5:30 Friday, February 28th at the Forest Grove Senior and Community Center.

This Friday, January 24th

Come on down to the Forest Grove Senior and Community Center and have supper with us!

5:30 we start cooking (if you are bringing food that needs time to soften, like carrots or potatoes, please be sure to be there as soon as the broth is put on the stove). You don’t have to bring veggies…you can bring herbs or spices or bread or other side dish or nothing but your appetite!

We usually are able to eat by 6pm and we are usually wrapping up about 7pm.

Brought to you by Dairy Creek Community Food Web, Forest Grove Senior and Community Center, and FG Community Matters (that’s us!).

One Week from Today

ImageA week from tonight will be our first Community Supper of 2014! Get the year started off right by building community over food! We are considering adding a few other options to our “menu”, for example a non vegetarian option for those who enjoy a little meat in their soup. We will continue to have the vegetable broth for those who prefer a meatless choice. If you have thoughts or ideas on a new soup option, leave a comment and let’s see what we can come up with!

Also, while we always encourage folks to bring a vegetable to add to our “stone soup”, herbs and spices are welcome too (though we ask that you stick to less spicy spices as some folks are sensitive to those flavors). Or you can bring a side dish, bread or dessert!

Robin Lindsley and I spoke to a class at Pacific today and a couple things I mentioned to them about bringing items to share were…

1) You don’t have to worry about how many people will be there b/c small dishes brought by a few different people go a long way and 2) We don’t expect you to spend a lot of money. In fact, you don’t have to bring anything at all!

Happy Holidays!!!

Happy Holidays!!!

We will be gathering the Friday after Christmas!! Please join us and share your favorite memories of this holiday season or seasons past! There will be vegetarian broth thanks to Ellen. Perhaps you could bring some Christmas leftovers to share???? Or just bring yourself and a guest to join us in community!
5:30 for cooking.
6:00 for eating.

“We have all known the long loneliness and we have learned that the only solution is love and that love comes with community.” ― Dorothy Day

ImageJoin us for some community, love and support! Tomorrow evening (Friday, November 22nd) 5:30pm at the community center! We will be making some amazing soup (I know already because we made the broth last night and it is AMAZING).

I have witnessed and have been blessed to be a part of some wonderful acts of community love this last month and it is my desire to continue to spread that love and support to our entire community! Bring your neighbors, invite friends!! If you have some squash or kale to add (or anything else you may have around the house or garden) bring that too!!

We will eat, and enjoy, and support one another. We can lift each other when needed and share in joys as well.

I can’t wait to see you all!!!

Last Minute Reminder!
